A Sustainable Platform Blueprint for Resilient 6G Manufacturing

The transition towards Industry 5.0 demands communication networks capable of supporting highly autonomous, flexible, and intelligent manufacturing environments. Future factories will rely on seamless integration of AI, edge computing, deterministic communications, and digital twins to coordinate robots, optimize production processes, and ensure safe human-machine collaboration. Achieving this vision requires more than enhanced connectivity—it calls for an end-to-end platform that combines advanced 6G technologies into a sustainable, interoperable, and commercially viable architecture.

PRIME-6G (Pilot for Resilient Industrial Manufacturing Environments with 6G Technologies) is an Innovation Action funded by the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) under Horizon Europe. The project will design, develop, and validate a sustainable 6G platform blueprint for advanced manufacturing, integrating AI-driven network and compute optimization, deterministic end-to-end connectivity, integrated sensing and communications (ISAC), digital twins, and cloud-edge continuum technologies. These innovations will be demonstrated through two complementary industrial use cases—AURORA and SENTINEL—culminating in a TRL7 pilot at the ARENA2036 manufacturing facility, showcasing the potential of 6G technologies to enable resilient, flexible, and intelligent industrial operations.

Our role

Fivecomm contributes to the AURORA and SENTINEL use cases by developing key technologies for intelligent industrial connectivity and collaborative manufacturing. Building on its expertise in private 5G networks, network planning, digital twins, distributed MIMO, and Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC), Fivecomm develops solutions that enhance situational awareness, optimize radio resource management, and improve the reliability and efficiency of industrial wireless communications.

The company also contributes to the definition of the PRIME-6G platform blueprint, helping identify reusable architectural components, technical requirements, and interfaces that will enable interoperable and sustainable 6G deployments for the manufacturing sector. Through validation in realistic industrial environments, Fivecomm supports the project’s objective of accelerating the adoption of next-generation communication technologies in future smart factories.
