5G-IANA Project: Remote Driving Demonstration Marks a Milestone in Ulm and Ljubljana

The 5G-IANA project, after several years of pioneering work, has reached its final stage. To mark this significant milestone, two events were held to showcase the remote driving applications developed throughout the project. If you missed the action, here’s a video & summary of what happened in both Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Ulm (Germany).

Watch the event highlights below! 👇

End-to-End Remote Driving Experience with Predictive Quality of Service

On July 18th, the 5G-IANA consortium and our R&D team gathered for a review meeting with the European Commission. As part of the event, two sets of demonstrations were conducted:

  • One in-person at the Telekom Slovenije headquarters, Slovenia
  • Another remotely from Nokia’s lab in Ulm, Germany

Fivecomm participated remotely from Ulm and successfully demonstrated Use Case 1. Using a remote driving network application (nApp) deployed on the IANA platform at Nokia’s MEC server, the demo allowed participants in Nokia’s lab to control a vehicle located kilometers away in Lehr.

The nApp not only facilitated remote driving but also included advanced object detection and positioning, along with real-time warning alerts powered by additional nApp functionalities from Use Case 6.

The entire consortium followed the demo remotely from Ljubljana, marking the event as a great success 🦾🎉

Live Demonstration from Ulm to Ljubljana at the 5G-IANA Final Event

On October 23rd, Telekom Slovenije hosted the 5G-IANA Final Event, featuring impactful keynote speeches and live demonstrations. It was an honor for us to participate in this milestone.

During the event, our R&D Manager, Dr. Manuel Fuentes, presented the key achievements of the project, emphasizing the significant benefits of remote driving applications for the future of 5G and 6G technologies. Meanwhile, our colleagues in Ulm performed another live demonstration, transmitting all the capabilities shown in July to the audience in real-time.

As in July, the final event was considered a major success, marking the conclusion of our 5G-IANA journey 🎊🛫
