Training school, innovation and entrepeneurship

Last week of May, the University of Twente in the Netherlands hosted a remarkable training school as part of the European project ITN-5VC. This event brought together Early Stage Researchers (ESRs), industry experts, and university professors to foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and advanced research skills.

In the training school, ESRs engaged in various lectures on creating spin-offs, covering crucial topics such as funding, defining business models, and securing innovation value. This provided them with a well-rounded perspective on entrepreneurial ventures.

The second day of the training kicked off with an insightful overview of the Fivecomm startup journey from foundation to consolidation, presented by Héctor Josep Donat Añó, CEO of Fivecomm. Héctor shared his invaluable experience, providing a practical roadmap for aspiring entrepreneurs. Following this, David Martín-Sacristán delivered a comprehensive lecture on accessing EU funding, equipping attendees with essential knowledge to support their research initiatives.

After a networking lunch, David continued with a session on managing innovation, emphasizing the importance of Agile methodologies. Participants engaged in interactive exercises, enhancing their understanding of these dynamic frameworks. The day concluded with a delightful dinner featuring Latin cuisine, offering a taste of cultural diversity.

The final day was a showcase of the ESRs’ remarkable progress over the past three years. Presentations highlighted their achievements and ongoing projects, marking significant milestones toward the completion of their PhDs. Professors Andrés Alayón Glazunov and André Kokkeler, along with other esteemed faculty members, delivered lectures on various topics, including entrepreneurship, 3GPP standardization, and the effective use of standardization documents in research.

This training school not only celebrated the achievements of these young researchers but also laid a strong foundation for their future endeavors. As they continue to revolutionize the future with their ideas and projects, the impact of the ITN-5VC training school at the University of Twente will undoubtedly resonate for years to come.
